As homes in Austin, Texas are getting more expensive and selling for well over $1 million, many home builders and real estate agents are turning to aerial drone photography and videos to showcase their listings.
Home builder websites that allow for the inclusion of these stunning drone videos and photos appeal to high end buyers who want to fully experience the scope and scale of a project. Drone photography allows potential buyers to see viewpoints that were once only accessible to photographers who rented expensive cherry pickers. The videos can provide an almost 3D quality to the real estate listings, by highlighting dramatic views or close proximity to lakes and hill country vistas. Drone videos/photos can also focus on outdoor entertainment areas such as pools and spas.
Homes for sale with views in the spectacular hill country areas surrounding Austin, TX - including Lake Austin, Westlake, Lakeway, and Lake Travis - could certainly benefit from the inclusion of drone photography on their websites.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently released new rules for commercial unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators (commonly called drone operators) that are effective August 2016 - some of the major key points are:
- The drone must be under 55 pounds
- The maximum altitude is 400 above ground level (AGL) or, if higher than 400 feet AGL, remain within 400 feet of a structure.
- Daylight-only operations, or civil twilight (30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset, local time) with appropriate anti-collision lighting.
- The drone operator must register and get certified as a Remote Pilot in Command - which requires a test and vetting by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
As these new rules come into play, you should look for a professional drone photographer who is experienced and compliant with these new regulations.
The costs associated with drone photography may vary greatly depending on the rates, skill and experience of the individual photographer.... but if a real estate seller is committed to selling a high end property, the added expense may really pay off.
